Subject:The rest area was dedicated to the 41st Infantry (Sunset) Division.
This division was organized for World War I in 1917 at Camp Greene, North Carolina and was demobilized at Camp Die, New Jersey in 1919. It was reorganized and Federally recognized at Portland, Oregon in 1930. We thought you might enjoy learning about how our blue highway signs (known in official language as “interstate logo signs”) and about the crew that maintains and installs signs.
Our sign crew partners with the Oregon Department of Transportation Sign Operations Department to manufacture the sign base.
Once our business customer has undergone the OTIC permit process, their logo is ready for installation.

The loss of a grand old tree

Today we mourn the loss of one of our Heritage Trees. The Barlow Road Tollgate Big Leaf Maple was badly decayed and posed a threat to passing motorists. There is one bright spot: several “sprouts” at the base of the tree were preserved. Daniel Parker (the original Barlow Rd tollgate keeper) planted the tree 130 years ago. A good long life!
