Rest Area Profile: French Prairie Rest Area, milepost 281

Location: French Prairie is one of Oregon’s largest rest areas and encompasses over 40 acres on each side of Interstate 5. Located a very short distance from Portland at milepost 281, the rest stop is near major tourism and visitor attractions, including Woodburn Company Stores and the National Historic Districts of Aurora and Champoeg. Many hands raise new awareness to historic Dayton and its Fort Yamhill Blockhouse

This week, OTE’s sign crew and their Oregon Department of Transportation brethren were onsite at Dayton’s Courthouse Square Park, drilling holes and securing a brand new historic marker into place.

A Travel Information Council telephonic meeting will be held on Thursday, June 20, 2013, at 9:00 a.m. The proposed 2013 – 2015 OTE budget will be reviewed and voted upon. When OTE assumed management of the Tillamook rest area one year ago, its onsite rest area team embarked on a vigorous campaign to revitalize the surrounding landscape.
