Located in Clatsop County, between Jewell and Birkenfeld, 4 miles north of highway 202 on Northrup Creek Road. The grand fir is easily accessed along the Big Tree Trail located inside the Northrup Creek Horse Camp. The trail is open year-round for hiking only. The trail consists of three different loop options, with the longest route at just under one mile. The Northrup Creek road is gated December through May, as the Horse Camp is closed during this timeframe. During the closed season for the campground, a little over 2 miles would be added to the hike. Little to no elevation gain regardless of any of the options taken.
